On completion and achievement of the apprenticeship standard, progression routes will be provided and discussed with the individual to enable them to make informed choices about continuous professional development.
Entry is subject to interview and assessment and you will need to have relevant employment. In addition, you will need to have 4 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher, including English & Maths or have achieved a relevant Level 2 vocational qualification* and be able to demonstrate ability equivalent to, or exceeding Level 2 in English & Maths.

Dental Nurses provide chair side support to dental professionals and deliver a high level of patient care within a variety of clinical environments.
Apprentices will develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours through on and off-the-job learning and are expected to attend Eastleigh College on a day release basis.
Apprentices will enhance knowledge in areas to include:
- Dental and regional anatomy
- Respiratory and circulatory systems
- Transmission of infectious diseases and their prevention
- Materials , equipment and resources
- Medical Emergencies
- Legislative compliance and regulatory requirements
Apprentices will develop skills in areas to include:
- Health Promotion
- Clinical skills
- Patient Care & Patient Management
- Communication & Management Skills
The apprenticeship standard has an expected duration of 24 months and on successful completion apprentices will be awarded a Level 3 qualification approved by the General Dental Council following completion of an end point assessment.
Unless exempt on entry, apprentices will be required to achieve Level 2 Functional Skills in English & Maths prior to undertaking end point assessment.
Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by an Apprenticeship Officer.
On successful completion of this apprenticeship the apprentice can register with the General Dental Council as a qualified Dental Nurse.
