What opportunities will this course give me?
The HNC provide the perfect knowledge and skills to study construction at higher levels. The development of this programme with the University of Portsmouth ensures that contemporary practice and knowledge is tested and explored during the programme. If you decide to continue in employment, your HNC will open up a range of opportunities. The HNC construction qualification also provides entry to many higher level professional qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building Surveying, Property Management and Architectural Design.

Why is this course for me?
Teaching is conducted primarily through theoretical and real life scenarios which is supported by site visits, guest speakers and a range of simulated scenarios. The wide coverage of building subjects will allow you to have a better understanding of all aspects of building from design and costing, to contract and construction. The course is focused on the specific needs of the 'contracting' industry and will provide students with the requisite knowledge, concepts, techniques and skills to enable them to effectively fulfil their existing and future managerial responsibilities.
What do I need to sign up?
You must be a minimum age of 18 and have a good standard of literacy and IT skills. GCSE English and maths grade (C) 4 or above Appropriate attainment on a previous course of study, eg. NVQ 3 in a construction related trade, Construction and Built Environment Level 3, National Certificate or prior experience within the Construction Industry. We welcome applications from experienced individuals with a background in industry. All applications will be invited to an interview which will include a welcome to the course, maths initial assessment and a short interview.
Is there anything else I need to know?
The HNC is offered as a day release programme over 2 years (280 glh per year) and is an essential qualification for those who wish to progress to professional and management level careers within the construction industry. There is an expectation for students to self-study for a minimum of 4 hours per week. You will be taught by experienced construction professional from various disciplines.
