What opportunities will this course give me?
Ever thought ''if I only had an app that could make my life easier or my business more streamlined'' then this is the course for you.
This course is designed to teach you how to be an app developer using Apple's Swift language and xCode. It includes basic programming concepts and follows industry best practices.
The course is perfect for those with a little coding experience and those who have far more experience with other languages.
The course will enable you to create apps for all iOS devices for both business purposes and personal convenience.
What will I be learning?
The course has 27 lessons that help you learn a specific skill in app development. Each lesson starts with a brief introduction to the concept, a set of learning objectives, new vocabulary terms (so you can talk the talk with other developers) and references to build upon the knowledge gained.
The body of each lesson includes sample code and screen casts explained by your lecturer and then concludes with a practical lab and review questions that allow you to check your understanding.
During the course you will create a minimum of three working apps.
The first is fairly simple and ensures you learn the basics of data, operators and control flow in the Swift programming language. You will also learn about the interface builder and how to build, debug and document your app within XCode.
The second app you create will confirm your understanding of strings, functions, structures, collectors and loops, you will do this by creating a ''word guessing'' game that uses auto layout to ensure your app looks good no matter the orientation of your device.
The third app you create will ensure you understand how to build workflows and navigation hierarchies using navigation controllers, tab bar controllers and segues.
In addition to the above you will be guided on how to plan and create an app of your own choice.
Why is this course for me?
With the course being delivered over two evenings each week, it will give you the time to have a little practice at home between sessions and also the access to a certified Apple trainer at regular intervals while you learn.
The course is ideal for people who are working in a variety of roles and completion of this course could improve promotion prospects and the processes used within the workplace.
The course is also ideal for those seeking a change in career.
How will my learning be enhanced?
During each evening you will be encouraged to interact with you classmates and this in itself has many benefits, particularly sharing ideas and plans for future app development.
You will receive permanent ongoing access to Apples Student resources and will be able to refer to these after the course for reference in the future.
iPads are available within college for you to practice creating apps before you place them on your own iPhone / iPad.
We use the latest M1 Chip Mac Mini's in the classroom so there is no need to bring your own equipment.
What do I need to sign up?
You will be expected to have an apple ID to access the materials but this can be created during the first session if you do not have one yet.
You can complete the course with just an iPad and using the equipment in our classroom but we highly recommend that you have an Apple computer available for your own use at home or at work. If you do you will be able to advance quicker by practicing what you learn at home, its fun and does not take long.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Following this course you may progress onto the Apple Swift Data Collections course, where you will learn to create apps that interrogate and manipulate high volumes of data to create even more impressive apps that could change the world.
