On successful completion, apprentices may progress into a chef de partie role or senior production chef role.
Entry is subject to interview and assessment and you will need to have relevant employment. In addition, you will need to have 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher, including English & Maths or have achieved a relevant Level 1 vocational qualification* and be able to demonstrate ability equivalent to, or exceeding Level 1 in English& Maths

A commis chef prepares food and carries out basic cooking tasks under the supervision of a more senior chef. The primary objective of the commis chef is to learn and understand how to carry out the basic functions in every section of the kitchen with a view to specialising in an area where they feel most inspired.
The apprenticeship standard covers the core skills, knowledge and behaviours required to demonstrate competency within specific areas to include:
- Food Safety
Apprentices will develop through on and off-the-job learning and are expected to attend Eastleigh College on a day release basis and will demonstrate competency though an end point assessment.
Additionally, unless exempt on entry, apprentices will be required to achieve Level 1 Functional Skills in English & Maths and take the test at Level 2 prior to undertaking the end point assessment.
The typical duration of this apprenticeship is expected to be 12 months.
Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by an Apprenticeship Officer.
