Units span from health and safety, to managing meetings, contributing to menu development and supervising drinks and food services. On completion of the course, you will be qualified and confident to kick start your career as either a supervisor or manager or, alternatively, can further your education with our event management programme.
Employment may be found in a wide range of hospitality and catering environments such as hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, conference centres etc. This will give you an excellent step to the supervisory/management ladder in any organisation. Students have recently gained employment from large companies such as Holiday Inn, MacDonalds Hotel Group, Hilton Hotels, Michelin Star Restaurant, Airport Catering, Army Barracks Catering.

• Food safety supervision for catering

• Legislation in food and beverage service
You will also have the option of learning how to:
• Prepare and serve wines
• Prepare and serve cocktails
• Supervise hospitality events
• Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
• Barista skills
With assignments carried out through a variety of methods - including reflective tasks, written reports and service assessments - youll leave bursting with enthusiasm and confidence to pursue your on wards career in this constantly evolving industry.
Your programme will involve practical work in East Avenue Restaurant and our three kitchens. Theory will take place in a classroom environment. You will work in groups for practical, but you may be required to complete some assessed coursework either individually or working in pairs. The programme also includes a compulsory two week work placement. As part of the programme you will be completing a range of coursework and practical tasks as well as short answer papers. You will also be learning off-site, by visiting establishments in the industry as well as guest speakers coming into the college.

What do I need to sign up?
You should have successfully completed Level 2 Professional Catering or Level 2 NVQ in Food Preparation and Cooking or Level 3 Hospitality.
You will need 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 including English Language and mathematics.
All learners without a GCSE at grade A*-C or 9-4 in English or Maths will be required, as a condition of the programme, to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme. Therefore, if you enter a programme with a Grade 3 in English or Maths, you will be required to take English or Maths as well.
For internal progression you will have completed L2 in the relevant vocational area and made positive progress to achieving your GCSE English and Maths (if below Grade 4) as well as demonstrating that you have upheld the college values.
You will require an interview with subject specialist staff to ensure you have a good understanding of the course you are applying for. Attendance and attainment reports from previous education will also be required.
Adult learners may apply for any of our full time and apprenticeship programmes and your vocational experience will also be taken into consideration alongside existing qualifications.
The programme is fully funded for learners aged 16-18. Fees may apply for 19+.
Learners should also be able to demonstrate a good level of skills and knowledge in order to progress onto this programme and demonstrate experience of working both in a supervisory and management capacity.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Site visits will take place over the length of the programme, and guest speakers from industry often come to the classes.
You will need to have appropriate clothing and footwear for your work in our training restaurant and compulsory work placements.
You will be required to travel to work placements.
If you are aged 16-18 the programme is fully funded. If you are aged 19+, fees may apply.
All learners enrolled on a full-time study programme are expected to attend a compulsory work or industry placement during their course. The number of hours of placement will vary from 35 hours through to 750 hours, this variance is due to the differing types of assessment on each course.
Learners should be aware that this is compulsory part of their study programme and work / industry placements will take place during the college week.
