This qualification allows learners to enter the workforce as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner. Learners may work under supervision in a variety of job roles such as nursery or pre-school practitioner or classroom assistant.
This programme is a great stepping stone for a Level 3 Early Years qualification and allows progression for those who have also achieved maths and English GCSE and have a positive tutor recommendation.
You should have a particular interest and commitment to the care of children and be at least 16 years of age. You should be organised, have excellent communication skills and be confident to work using your own initiative.
You will need to have gained a minimum of four GCSEs at grade D / 3 or above including English Language and Maths.
You should also have good attendance and attainment reports from your previous school or college. You will also have to attend and complete a successful college interview.
This qualification is made up of 14 units which are based on practical skills and knowledge. These units cover a range of subjects including the role of the Early Years Practitioner, children's play and development, supporting positive behaviour, health and safety, equality and inclusion and safeguarding childrens welfare.
You will attend a nursery or pre-school setting for work experience for two days a week in order to gain practical experience in a real work environment.
English and Maths GCSEs will be studied by learners who have not previously achieved these subjects.
You will learn through a mixture of lectures and practical work experience. You will be required to attend college for three days per week and a work placement for two days per week. All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods including direct observation within the workplace and written tasks set by CACHE.
It is recommended that learners purchase a course textbook, details of which can be obtained at the start of the term. Learners are required to provide their own study equipment such as stationery and a USB memory stick.
There is a mandatory requirement for learners to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in order to attend work placement. The DBS application and associated ID evidence must be processed by October half term for learners to continue further with their course.
