What career opportunities can this lead to?

Progression onto the level 3 course will be encouraged once completing this level at a pass and after achieving GCSE English Language and maths at a C grade or above. Once the level 3 qualification is complete progression into the industry could be as an Early Years Practitioner in a pre-school, nursery or a reception class in a school.

What are the entry requirements?

Learners must be either in employment, or a volunteer, and have the opportunity for work based assessment

What does this programme involve?

Theme 1: Health and well-being
Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness
Theme 4: Professional development

Learners must achieve:
14 mandatory units and 2 optional units
Credit Value: 33

-To gain the qualification, learners will be required to be assessed by a qualified assessor, and will be asked to produce a portfolio of evidence to show that they meet the required standard. Learners must be able to demonstrate their knowledge and practice. Attendance at college is on a part-time basis; learners are expected to attend at least 80% of the programme. Learners will be shown how to gather evidence to meet the Standards.

How is the programme taught and assessed?

Learning is achieved through a variety of methods: attending workshops, sharing experiences, views and ideas with other learners, professional discussion, and feedback and review from an assessor.

What else do I need to know?

Learners taking this course must be working under the direction of a supervisor or manager in a childcare setting. The work environment may be a nursery or a pre-school. Learners must be either in employment, or a volunteer, and have the opportunity for work based assessment.

What additional resources are required and what should I bring to the first class?
A note pad and pen, lever arch file, dividers, plastic wallets.

If you are hoping to undertake a workbased apprenticeship, please be aware that you will need to be employed in a relevant role in industry and your employer must agree to your training.
