This is the qualification required for managers of adult residential and domiciliary services or children's homes.

The Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services can also help you work in roles such as:
-Adult nurse
-Care home manager
-Care worker
-Children's nurse
-Health promotion / education specialist
-Health service manager
-Learning disability nurse
-Mental health nurse
-Residential warden
-Social worker
-Supervisor / team leader
-Volunteer manager
-Youth and community worker.

What are the entry requirements?

Suitable for those working in a management or deputy management position or who have a direct supervisory role within their care setting

There are no formal entry criteria but suitable experience within the care sector is required and apprentices must be able to show knowledge and understanding and be able to demonstrate leading and managing a team, dealing with complaints, managing quality, care planning and review, managing care practice, completing supervision and appraisals, learners must also be able to undertake a research project within the qualification independently.

What does this programme involve?

You will cover a number of areas, such as:
-the assessment of individual needs
-planning and review of care programmes
-procurement and tendering
-risk management
-effective governance
-domiciliary care management

How is the programme taught and assessed?

Once you have enrolled onto the programme you will be assigned an assessor that will visit you in the workplace regularly. They will complete assessment plans and reviews with you to keep you on target. They will support you in the collection of the required evidence needed for your qualification through different assessment methods such as; professional discussion, observations, written questions, verbal questions, witness statements and any assignments.

What else do I need to know?

These qualifications guide and assess development of knowledge, understanding and skills in leadership and management practice within health and social care and children and young peoples services and serves as the required qualification for registration and regulatory requirements for the sector in England. This is a level 5 Higher Apprenticeship framework for those working as Adults Residential Managers, Adults Managers and Adults' Advanced Practitioners in Adult Social Care or as a
Manager of Specialist Adult Social Care Services or Business Development Manager in adult
social care only. This framework has been developed by Skills for Care based on the input of
employers in the adult social care sector. This framework does not currently include pathways
for people working in the Health Service or Children and Young People's Services.

How do I apply?

If you are hoping to undertake a workbased apprenticeship, please be aware that you will need to be employed in a relevant role in industry and your employer must agree to your training.
