BSLVS3 ESK3 - Enterprise Skills: Running a Small Business: This is a stand alone 1 year programme or a combined programme with Business Professional Administration Level 3 Diploma which provides individuals and small teams with the experience of starting up their own business and managing people. This Level 3 course is intended for the individual who is looking for an opportunity to gain recognised management and supervisory qualifications with practical experiences that can lead to supervisory or junior management roles in business. This combined with Business Professional Administration Level 3 Diploma (SEMSR03) will give up to 116 UCAS Points which will allow access to a relevant Bachelors Degree programme
You should be keen and enthusiastic and have completed a Business Administration or Business Studies course at Level 2. Alternatively, you should hold a minimum of 4 GCSEs A*-C (9 to 4), including Maths and English (ICT is desirable), or a First Diploma which must be at Merit/Distinction. If you have only a First Diploma or similar qualification, it must be in a related subject. We would also like to see a satisfactory school Record of Achievement and you will have to complete a successful college interview and initial literacy and numeracy test.
You will focus on the culture of business and review the role of an entrepreneur while you establish a small business, manage financial accounts and develop customer service skills while creating a sustainable business plan. You will pitch your business proposal to a panel of investors to seek funding and support in an attempt to create a first year business profit. All students without the correct GCSE grades in English or Maths will be required, as a condition of the programme, to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme.
You will experience working in a business environment and will be expected to undertake work experience and business activities on occasional Saturdays throughout the year. Classes are taught in an interactive learning environment and include group work and individual study which continually develops your skills which will evolve through a mixture of lessons, demonstrations, assignments and real-life practical tasks that will be assessed and supported by reflective assignment reports produced within deadlines. Your programme will intensify in time to reflect the additional work commitment required to take a product from the production line to the market place. Tutors will be on-hand to guide and support you through your qualification.
The course will allow you to take on managerial roles and responsibilities as expected in a small modern business to achieve your businesses financial success and while managing the business process you will demonstrate leadership skills and take responsibility for developing your team and the individuals within it. This programme is suitable for individuals 16 - 18 who are unsure of their future career path but know they want to manage and lead people and develop in todays thriving business environment. The programme is flexible and varied to maintain focus upon an enterprise project with learners working independently to lead a small team. This programme is specifically run with the intention of including a number of weekend market days, which will be run and managed by the students, and a number of off-site visits within the local business community. To enable the safety of the students, it may be necessary to purchase appropriate clothing or footwear for use in the workshop or any other off-site work experience.
