What opportunities will this course give me?
This practical course is recommended for those that wish to develop a career in maintenance and manufacturing engineering. Learners will be encouraged to undertake maths and English to enable access to the level 3 courses.
The progression route for this programme is to an EAL Level 3 engineering course and HNC courses
What will I be learning?
The programme provides students with the basic building blocks of engineering, acting as an introduction to other engineering programmes. Over the year, students will complete units in Health and Safety, Computer Aided Design, Using Lathes for Turning Operations, Hand Fitting skills, Employability and Work Skills. The programme is designed for learners to be practically competent in the engineering industry work.
Why is this course for me?
You will learn through a mixture of theory and practical sessions. Visits and trips will be used to allow students to visualise certain elements of the programme.
You will be assessed through written exams, online exams and practical assessments.
What do I need to sign up?
You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade A*-D / 9-3 including English and Maths or possess an equivalent relevant qualification. All students should have good attendance and attainment reports from a previous school or college, and demonstrate enthusiasm and motivation at interview. No previous experience of engineering is required although an understanding would be beneficial.
Is there anything else I need to know?
You will need to provide yourself with pens, pencils paper and a lever-arch file for your notes. You will also need to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for practical lessons. This includes appropriate safety footwear and overalls. Eastleigh College will provide access to all other PPE as appropriate for the qualification and units selected.
