What opportunities will this course give me?
The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy (QCF) is focused towards those seeking to gain employment as a sports massage therapist working with the general public and athletes.
This qualification is recognised as an approved qualification for continued professional development (CPD) by the Sports Massage Association.
It also provides progression opportunities to additional courses such as: Level 4 Sports Massage Therapy.
Students will be able to progress onto the VTCT level 4 certificate in sports massage therapy (QCF) which will build on the skills, knowledge and understanding gained at level 3. It will introduce more advanced massage and assessment techniques, preparing you to work with non-acute injury and pre-existing conditions.
What will I be learning?
In this qualification learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of the theory underpinning the practice of sports massage treatments, anatomy and physiology for sports massage, principles of health and fitness and the principles of soft tissue dysfunction.
It will also provide learners with the understanding; skills and techniques to plan, prepare for and apply a range of sports massage methods to uninjured clients. Learners will also develop skills to evaluate massage strategies and methods to inform on future practice. Students will need to commit to the College sessions, home study and keeping a log of hours of work practice (this must be gained through work placement and attendance of sports massage events, sourced by the student).
Unit 1: USP41 Anatomy, Physiology for Sports Massage
This unit will be assessed through workbooks, the learner evidence pack and there will be an external written exam paper that requires a 70% pass mark.
Unit 2: USP42 Principles of Health and Fitness
This unit will be assessed through the learner evidence pack.
Unit 3: USP43 Understand the Principles of Soft Tissue Dysfunction
This unit will be assessed through the learner evidence pack.
Unit 4: USP44 Professional Practise in Sports Massage
This unit will be assessed through practical assessments, case studies and the learner evidence pack.
Unit 5: USP45 Sports Massage Treatments
This unit will be assessed through practical assessments, case studies and the learner evidence pack.

What do I need to sign up?
There are no formal pre-requisite qualifications that you must have prior to undertaking this qualification, however, a pre-entry requirement for the course is the completion of an initial and diagnostic assessment in English.
If English is your second language you will need to hold an ESOL level 1 qualification.
It is advisable to have a background knowledge of anatomy at level 2 or a genuine interest in the subject.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Anyone wishing to start their career in sport massage therapies, this course is ideal as a first course into sports massage and injury management. The VTCT Level 3 Certificate in sports massage therapy has been designed to provide learners with the required knowledge, understanding and skills to work in an unsupervised capacity as a sports massage practitioner, with dysfunctional tissue in a pre/post, intra/inter and maintenance massage context. This includes professional practise, expected standards and related legislation and legal requirements.
Suitable clothing such as sports wear and trainers.
