What opportunities will this course give me?

Students have the opportunity to study the following related UAL Art & Design courses at Eastleigh College:

UAL L3 Award in Drawing.
UAL L3 Award in Photography.

With your drawing course and one of the above courses combined, you will be eligible to apply for the part-time HNC In Art & Design (Contemporary Art Practice). This is a level 4 higher education course and is the equivalent to the first year of a university degree course. You can apply with a combined portfolio of art, design & media work and two of these relevant L3 Award qualifications.

What will I be learning?

This course is for students interested in developing their Fine art, illustration and printmaking skills through exploring and experimenting with a diverse range of materials and techniques. Students will work with a team of practicing artists & designers over the twenty-week course, to develop their printmaking skills, and develop their creative potential producing a varied body of work. The course will take students through a variety of visual examples and techniques, introducing conventional and alternative approaches to printmaking and creating visual research. Students will have the support, experience, advice and guidance of staff in developing a body of work to create a portfolio, which can then be used to aid their further study.

Students will have the chance to develop and explore a vast range of printmaking techniques and methods including:

Drawing for print.
Experimental mono printmaking
Calligraphic press surface printing
Intaglio printing- Dry point Etching
Block Printing: Type & Letter block
Lino cut printing
Textile printmaking techniques.
Screen printing- paper screen techniques
Heat transfer & Disperse printing
Photo transfer printing
Mixed-media printing and collage techniques.
Semiotics & image Analysis in printmaking
Digital processes and printmaking: (Photoshop).
Printmaking Research approaches.

You will explore these ideas using a variety of printmaking materials, techniques and process and within a variety of art & design contexts to produce a lively a dynamic portfolio of works.

Students will then have the opportunity to build a portfolio from the work generated from these sessions, which will aid in the application to further education and study.

What do I need to sign up?

A general interest in printmaking and other Art & Design based subjects. L2 qualifications in art & Design is also desirable.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Sketchbooks and presentation materials portfolios etc. can be purchased in the department for use on your course.
