What opportunities will this course give me?
The finance, accountancy, business and communications skills developed in the AAT Foundation Certificate in Book-keeping can lead to employment as:
• A professional bookkeeper
• An accounts manager
• A ledger manager
The accountancy and finance knowledge developed in this qualification also forms part of the underpinning knowledge for the Advanced Diploma in Accounting Level 3.
What will I be learning?
The AAT Advanced Certificate in Book-keeping covers a range of advanced skills in three mandatory units:
• Advanced Book-keeping
• Finale account preparation
• Indirect Tax
The purpose of this qualification is to ensure that students are well prepared to progress within a business, finance or professional accountancy careers.
A student completing this qualification will further develop accountancy skills in double-entry bookkeeping, as well as furthering an understanding of purchase, sales and general ledgers. Learners will be able to register a business for VAT and complete VAT returns.
Why is this course for me?
The course is delivered in college on a part-time basis either one day per week or two evening per week for 19 weeks. Delivery is through a blend of tutor led sessions and independent study supported by tutorials and course materials through the colleges virtual learning environment.
Units are assessed individually in end-of-unit computer-based assessments.
What do I need to sign up?
Candidates will be required to attend an interview prior to commencing on the course and demonstrate an appropriate standard of Literacy and Numeracy.
Candidates will need to have a level 2 foundation certificate in accounting or a working knowledge of double entry bookkeeping which will be assessed at interview.
IT skills will also be required.
Is there anything else I need to know?
The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is a professional body and membership is required in order to undertake this qualification. Registration with the AAT must be made upon commencement of the course. Course text books will also be required and full details will be given upon commencement.

A Level 2 accounting course at Eastleigh College whet Matt's appetite for accountancy and gave him the opportunity to gain work experience at a local accountancy firm. The following year he joined the firm as a Level 3 apprentice, and is now well on his way to completing a Level 4 qualification.
