This Pattern Cutting for Beginners course will provide you with the skills and knowledge of pattern cutting.
Whilst this course does not have a formal qualification at the end, it is a fantastic way to widen your skills with hands-on learning material among a group of likeminded enthusiasts.

What will I be learning?
This course is suitable for those who would like to learn the basic principles of flat pattern cutting processes using pattern blocks, pattern drafting and dressmaking pattern adaptations.
An overview will be given of the basic adaptations of tops, skirts and trousers, including dart transformation, panels, adding volume, and simple silhouette changes. Learners will use provided pattern blocks in one size as a starting point. These can be resized.
This course is also suitable for ready bought pattern alterations.
A college certificate will be awarded on request.

The course will be taught through a practical hands on approach, with theory sessions taking place only as needed.
How will my learning be enhanced?
On this course, you will be taught by a qualified textiles tutor who will help you to learn the basic skills of pattern cutting.
Your tutor will be both friendly and accommodating, ensuring your experience on the course is stimulating and rewarding.
What do I need to sign up?
This course is suitable for dressmakers of all levels, although you must have at least some basic dressmaking skills and knowledge of dressmaking patterns in order to benefit from this course as those skills will not be covered. Ideally you have complete beginners dressmaking course or similar.
Is there anything else I need to know?
You will require the following items to participate in the course:
• Dot and cross pattern cutting paper or similar - 4M
• tape measure
• Pattern master/maker or similar larger ruler with right corner and curve
• pencil, sharpener and an eraser
• Markers in a few different colours
• Masking tape
• Tape measure
• Notepad and pen
• for testing your patterns you will also need some calico and your sewing kit.
