Why is this course for me?

Knitting is more than just a skill to make useful items; it's a powerful well-being activity. The process of learning a new skill or building on an existing one can be incredibly therapeutic. Armed with the confidence of your new skill, you may even find yourself turning away from social media scrolling and, instead, use your spare time to make something new and gain that unparalleled sense of achievement. Knitting is also known for improving fine motor skills, whilst requiring you to practice patience; two highly useful skills! Plus, it could open you up to an entirely new social circle, both at the College and outside of it. Having learnt your new skill, you may even join a local knitting circle or set up your own, the perfect balance of learning something new and increasing your social activities.

How will my learning be enhanced?

You will be taught by a passionate, highly experienced tutor with over 20 years spent learning and teaching knitting. There isn't much she doesn't know about the art of knitting, and boasts a diploma of higher education in Textiles; Knit and a degree in Fine Art. You'll learn at your own pace, with the potential for fast learners to be taught new stitches and methods to expand on their new skills. There will be some demonstration but the course is very practical. Stitches will be explored, students will learn how to follow a knitting pattern and begin a small project.

What do I need to sign up?

Some previous knitting experience is required. Learners must be able to do the basic knit and purl stitches.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Please bring one pair of 8.00mm needles and one ball of Super Chunky Double Knit (DK) yarn/wool or appropriately thick wool for 8.00mm needles, one ball of contrasting colour wool to make embellishments such as knitted flowers (this is completely optional), a pom pom (also optional), a pen and paper, and a flask/light refreshments.
