What opportunities will this course give me?
This Deaf Awareness workshop will help you learn more about the challenges faced by deaf people. Deafness and hearing loss can affect people in lots of different ways. This workshop will help you to understand the barriers people can face and what you can do to help minimise this.

What will I be learning?
In this workshop, we will be focusing on:
• Deaf information and facts
• The different types of deafness
• A simulation of different levels of deafness
• Assistive devices and technology that can be used
• The barriers that deaf people face
• The various ways to communicate, considering telephone communication and other technology
• How you can help a deaf person - good communication tips - do's and donts
You will primarily learn through discussions, activities, group work, pair work, observation and practice.
Why is this course for me?
Whilst you will not gain a professional qualification on this course, this workshop is a great way to find out more information and raise awareness of the deaf community.
There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and participate in discussion with your tutor and other learners.
How will my learning be enhanced?
On this workshop, you will be taught by a qualified British Sign Language tutor who will help you to understand the issues faced by people who are deaf.
Your tutor will be both friendly and accommodating, ensuring your experience on the workshop is stimulating and rewarding.

What do I need to sign up?
There are no formal entry requirements in respect of this course. The course is suitable for all adult learners aged 18 and over.
