This hands on course will have you turn out cakes like Mary Berry in no time. Whilst this course does not have any formal qualifications, you will be spending time with like minded baking beginners under the tutelage of our extremely experienced baking tutor. This programme will give you the skills and confidence to bake a range of beautiful and tasty cakes for friends and family.
Learners will be able to progress onto further cookery or cake decorating courses such as:
Baking and Decorating Cupcakes
Novelty Celebration Cakes
Introduction to Sugarcraft

What will I be learning?
In just a few short weeks you will have learnt how to create a variety of different cakes such as Victoria Sponge, Lemon Drizzle, Muffins and Traybakes. However the skills these basic cakes will give you will open up a whole new world of baking. You will also have a better understanding of the tools and equipment used in baking, know how to read, understand and follow recipes, and line a cake tin.
Even if things don't quite go to plan, it really doesn't matter in this class. In this supportive and encouraging learning environment, your tutor will help you work out what went wrong and how to make sure it doesn't happen again in the future.

Whether you want to make a cake for a specific occasion, are just keen to impress your family and friends or just want a new hobby, this course is a wonderful way to get you started.
Many learners go on to attend one of our other baking courses to build on their new skills.
How will my learning be enhanced?
At Eastleigh College, we place huge importance on delivering a learning experience built around you, the learner. Therefore, if you wish to cover something that isn't covered in the core course material, your tutor will try to incorporate it. For example, if you wish to create a particular style of cake that hasn't been included, that wish could be accommodated. We do what we can to deliver the best, most fulfilling time at the college possible.
What do I need to sign up?
This course is suitable for complete beginners who want to learn how to successfully bake cakes. All learners are welcome.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Please bring a notebook and pen, and an apron. Learners are responsible for the purchase of ingredients.
Learners will need to bring their own equipment e.g. cake tins, basic hand held food mixer, and ingredients as necessary on a weekly basis. Costs will vary depending on topic undertaken, but once you have the basic cake ingredients and equipment, you will use these every week. Your tutor will advise you about equipment at the first session.

A place on your chosen course is not confirmed until all of the necessary enrolment paperwork is signed and any relevant fees are paid.
