Our FREE Business Planning for Beginners course is suitable for anyone considering setting up a small business, voluntary organisation or charity, or has already taken their first steps.

What will I be learning?
The course will address specific start-up topics, such as: pros and cons of running your own business, personal lifestyle choices, researching your market, statutory requirements and setting achievable targets.
Over three sessions, we will aim to cover the following topics:
Week 1: Types of Business
Identifying different business types including charities and Voluntary Organisation (Sole trader, Partnership, Limited Company, Community Interest Company).
Understanding the purpose of different business types.
Identifying suitable business types for the individual learners and analysing the strengths and weakness of the proposed enterprise.
Week 2: Finances and Legislation
Understanding statutory requirements and financial responsibilities applicable to different types of business, voluntary organisations and charities.
Understanding the importance of recording financial transactions and basic bookkeeping.
Identifying ways of raising business start-up capital.
Week 3: Writing a Business Plan
Identifying reasons for writing a Business Plan.
Understanding common elements included in a Business Plan.
An Eastleigh College Certificate will be awarded upon request.

Whilst you will not gain a professional qualification on this course, this is a great way to learn about how to set up your own business and building your confidence to help you to achieve your end goal.
The course will be taught through demonstrations, discussions and practical tasks.

What do I need to sign up?
There are no formal entry requirements and the course is suitable for all adult learners aged 19 and over.
This course is ideal for anyone thinking about or planning to start a small business, charity or voluntary organisation. Access to a computer and the internet at home would be an advantage.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Please bring a pen and paper/notepad to the class, along with any business resources that you already have - for example: leaflets, cards, printouts.
No further costs are anticipated, however learners will be responsible for the purchase of any additional materials relevant to the course.
