Coronavirus Update

Eastleigh College is now closed to the vast majority of learners and has now moved to online learning. The College remains open for 16-18 year old learners of key workers, and those learners with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). However for both categories, learners are asked to stay at home where it is safe to do so. Consistent with public health advice, learners and staff are asked to follow public health guidance and the steps outlined via the 'read more' button.

Could you make the cut? An inside look at the hairdressing industry!

Last week our Hairdressing department invited a whole host of industry professionals to the College to share their expertise with our students.
Those studying Levels 1, 2 and 3 Hairdressing were in for a treat with the likes of Martrix, Sally's Supplies, Steiner and Bellmain coming in to demonstrate expert techniques in hair styling, talk about job vacancies, and teach the students the real tricks of the trade.
Students were shown all kinds of skills, from straightening techniques and advanced perm winding, to how to make hair extensions look natural and authentic. They were also given the information on all the latest technology and products available in the industry today.
Emma and Laura both study Level 3 Hairdressing and found the talks very informative. Laura currently works in a bank and wants to be able to do hairdressing alongside her current job. She said, "My favourite talks were from Bellmain about hair extensions, they were really helpful. I'd say the most important thing I learned was about colour correction, which is something we did with Matrix. I've also learned about the financial aspects of being self employed and how to promote my services."
Emma would like to work on a cruise ship, so she found the talks from Steiner to be particularly useful, "I've already applied for a few jobs and have some interviews lined up, it's something I really want to do. But if it doesn't go to plan, I will stay at College for another year to study Hair and Media Make-up to gain those extra skills."
Overall the visits were a great opportunity for our aspiring hairdressers to hear from people out working in the industry, and gave them an idea of what to expect when they qualify. Hopefully they will also have learned some specialist skills that will make them cutting-edge professionals!
