Lecturer in Access - Sociology

Salary: Up to £23.54 per hour (unqualified teacher status)

             Up to £34.53 per hour (qualified teacher status) 

Hours: Sessional, 3 hours a week during academic year

Start date: ASAP

Closing Date: 18th November 2019

Fixed Term until 31st August 2020.

 

A day in the life of…..

Eastleigh College is looking for a Lecturer in Sociology to teach predominantly on the Level 3 Access courses. This learning area offers programmes for both full time and part time students who are studying on the, Access to HE courses. You will be required to teach modules such as Introduction to sociology, sociology of family, sociology of crime and deviance, sociology of research modules and arguments for existence and god.

You as the Lecturer in Sociology will primarily teach 18+ students taking ACCESS modules.  This role will require excellent communication and organisational skills coupled with a strong commitment to develop the potential of all learners. You will need to plan the lesson and mark their work and be able to liaise with students for their progress reviews. You will need to manage the Sociology modules by liaising with the awarding body and the course manager. You will be required to attend open events at the college as well as assist with UCAS applications.

We are looking for a committed team member who works with confidence with a wide variety of ability levels.

Skills/experience required:

As a Lecturer in Sociology, you will ideally hold a degree in sociology or a related subject. Experience of teaching would be an advantage as would holding a teaching qualification (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE), however full training can be offered to achieve qualified teacher status.

Qualifications required:

A Degree in Sociology

Level 2/GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English

Ideally you will be a qualified Lecturer/Trainer with a recognised teaching qualification. However full training can be offered to achieve qualified teacher status.

Ideal attributes of applicant:

Applicants should be comfortable talking and engaging with young people and adults, highly organised, enthusiastic, have a keen interest in a sciences and willing to undergo further training and development, etc.
