Eastleigh College students presented cheques to the total value of £1678.56 to their two chosen charities, Cancer Research UK and the Joe Glover Trust, last week.
Jean Roberts, Director of Teaching and Learning presented the cheques, along with a group of students from the College, to representatives from both charities. The money was raised through a range of activities during the 2008/09 College academic year. Activities included dress down days, quizzes, raffles and performing arts shows. The motor vehicle department also raised funds through car washing days.
Charles Harrison, Chairman and Treasurer of the Southampton Committee accepted the donation on behalf of Cancer Research UK. The national charity is constantly working to increase understanding of cancer, and develop better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease.
Maxine Glover, co-founder of the Joe Glover Trust accepted the donation to her charity. The Joe Glover Trust provides direct financial help to families with children who are fighting against cancer. Victoria Stevens, Executive Officer at the Trust, also attended the presentation. She commented:
"I would like to say a huge thank you on behalf of the trust to everybody at Eastleigh College who helped raise money for The Joe Glover Trust this year. The money raised will help make a difference to so many families affected by childhood cancer and the real heroes, the children."
