Students access top of the range facilities

Students on the Foundation Course at Eastleigh College have a wide range of learning difficulties, and come to college to develop their life skills and work towards independence. Lessons are varied and include sports, catering, music, IT, as well as more traditional classroom activities.

The College is passionate about actively promoting inclusivity and giving all students the best possible opportunities. With this in mind, an unusual visitor was invited to the College.

Treloar Trust provides education, care, therapy, medical support and independence training to young people with physical disabilities and learning difficulties. Their brand new mobile unit, the Direct Trailblazer, has been specially designed to bring all the latest equipment and support to people with specific support needs.

Eastleigh College students participated in assessments in the Trailblazer with the experienced engineers and therapists. The assessments focused on communication and were designed to identify their specific needs. Once needs have been identified, techniques or equipment can be recommended that could improve the students' overall experience of college.
Katherine Paddington, Foundation Course Tutor at Eastleigh College commented:

"It's all about inclusiveness. If we can make college more inclusive to students by trying out a different teaching technique, or using a special piece of software, then we are moving in the right direction."
