Eastleigh College Skills for Working Life students participated in an art workshop last week, using recycled materials provided by the Southampton Scrapstore charity.
The scrap-come-art materials, included bottle tops, plastic buttons, old foam, cardboard tubes and a whole range of unidentifiable bits and pieces. Students thoroughly enjoyed the activity, each creating their own unique sculpture. Creations included robots, rabbits, cats, phones, and even a camera!
Stuart Jebbit, Outreach Worker for the Southampton Scrapstore, explained how the charitable scheme works:
"We collect scrap materials for local businesses free of charge, and use it for outreach projects such as this at schools and colleges. It's great fun for the students and it prevents the scrap ending up in landfill."
Enrichment activities such as this allow students to develop their creativity, communication and confidence.
