Diploma Students Team Building Task 1Diploma Students Team Building Task 2

With the new school year now in full swing, eighty Year 10 students from several of the region's secondary schools have embarked on an exciting new path to study a Diploma course at Eastleigh College.

The College, in partnership with the Eastleigh Schools' Consortium, have launched an array of new Diploma courses that are open to young people aged 14-16 and currently studying for their GCSEs.

Designed to complement students' existing school timetable, the Diplomas in Construction, Engineering, Hospitality and Society, Health & Development offer a new type of vocational qualification, which gives the students the knowledge and skills needed to progress onto their chosen career.

Lou Gittens, Head of Division 14-16 said:

"The new Diploma is a great way of combining class work with hands-on experience, offering students a new route to access higher education, and develop a career in professional roles such as an architecture, nursing or teaching, to name but a few".

Students will spend one day a week in College, for two years, and work towards either a Foundation or Higher Diploma qualification, equivalent to either five or seven GCSEs. At the end of their study, students aged 16 will be eligible to progress onto the Advanced Diploma, or choose a wide variety of further College courses or Apprenticeships on offer.

To find out more about the exciting new Diplomas on offer starting September 2010, students should contact their schools, or the College, for details on Diploma Option events and Taster sessions available.
