Floristry students at Eastleigh College celebrated the end of year with a beautiful display of competition pieces, and a visit from professional florist David Ragg.

David demonstrated a range of floral techniques to a packed out hall, full of enthusiastic onlookers. He produced bouquets, centrepieces, headpieces, sashes and more, which were modelled by College students to deafening applause at the end of the demonstration. David Ragg's contemporary designs and unique style provided a great inspiration to the budding florists watching.

The real stars of the show were the students themselves, who demonstrated their creativity and skill with an array of competition pieces in a range of classes. The competition themes included; The Elements, Wedding Centrepiece, Headwear for Ascot and Posy for a Celebrity. The creations included a cascading tangle of branches and blue flowers depicting water, a fiery display of red and orange flowers depicting fire, and a range of colourful and unique bouquets.

David Ragg took some time to inspect the competition pieces and commented:

"I have been very pleasantly surprised by the standard of the competition pieces. It's really encouraging to see so much young talent coming into the industry."

The entries were judged on a variety of factors notably, impact, colour harmony, suitability and interpretation. Amongst the winners were Andrea Hillyard with her interpretation of fire (pictured) and Natasha Barber with her posy designed for the singer 'Pink'.
