Exhibiting Excellence at Eastleigh College

Art students at Eastleigh College celebrated the culmination of a year of hard work at their Art Show and Awards Ceremony last week. Their celebration was extra special in view of the fact that 100% of Foundation Diploma students achieved their first choice place at University for September!

Bradley Ayrton Abela proudly accepted his 'Student of the Year' award for his consistent hard work and professional attitude throughout the course. His final piece, entitled 'Separation of Landscape' featured miniature landscapes on a large white background with a magnifying glass fixed to the wall for viewing. Bradley, who has been accepted onto a BA Fine Art Course at the University of the Arts, Farnham said:

"I'm very pleased to have had the opportunity to study with such great lecturers who have been really involved in helping me to develop my work. I'm not sure yet what I want to do after my degree; I want to keep my options open!"

The range of work on display was colourful and varied, and included traditional sketches, complex sculptures, unique fashion pieces, moving film and prints. The diversity of the work on display is reflected in the range of Higher Education courses the Foundation students will be moving on to in September. From Fine Art to Photography, Fashion and Illustration, their chosen specialisms are wide and varied.
Jo Bushnall, Director of the Aspects Gallery in Portsmouth attended the private view of the Art Show last week. She commented:

"I am really very impressed with the quality of the work and the professional way it has been exhibited."

Dr. Sebastiane Hegarty, a lecturer of Art, Design & Media at Eastleigh College said how proud he was of all the students:

"They have all worked really hard to achieve places on their desired courses. I wish them all every success for the future."
