Eastleigh College Hospitality and Catering students have brought the Catering Army Challenge Spoon back to the College's Red Carpet restaurant for the fourth year in a row. Two groups of 10 College students took on two teams from South Downs College, and stormed through the challenges to achieve both first and second place!
The students performed consistently in all challenges faced, which included Ready Steady Cook, napkin folding, name the mystery herbs and spices, and field cooking. They also had to take part in a number of non-catering related tasks, such as erecting a camouflage net, laser clay pigeon shooting and an obstacle course. This obstacle course became a bit more complicated for one student, Kayley Lambert, when her trousers split from one end of her leg to the other! Despite this, she continued on to the end of the course and took her position among the second-place team.
Rob Strachen, Catering Lecturer, said:
'We are really happy with both teams' performances; they pulled together as a team very well to achieve their victory and have received medals and certificates for their efforts.'
The Hospitality and Catering students that took part were: Aaron Hall (captain), Tom Fisher (vice captain), Jack Dewey, Lucy Gregory (chef team leader), Sam Philips, Ashley Byfield, Charley Hemmens, Kady Smith, Laura Cox and Katie Lambe (1st team), and Kayley Lambert, Jenny Taylor, Oliver Wilson, James Bryant, Leo Coleshill, Tom Bennet, Aaron Davis, Greg Salzer, Dean Carne and Steve Knock (2nd team).
