Sports Students Win Army Challenge!

Army Challenge WinnersDune Buggie!

Eastleigh College Sport Studies students sprinted to victory in the 2009 Army Sports Challenge earlier this month, against seven other Colleges in the region. The 14 College students took part in a range of events and challenges throughout the day, and only one of them had previous experience in this kind of event!

The College team won the majority of the challenges on the day, leading them to overall victory; they had to memorise a 32 piece kit bag after completing the Hanoi Towers challenge, take part in a 500m indoor rower event that was won by student Chris Street, and take turns to drive dune buggies around a course, swapping the driver after each lap in order to use the most team members in 20 minutes.

The last event, a large obstacle/assault course, sealed the students' victory, particularly rewarding considering four of the teams also competing were from Military Preparatory Colleges! The Eastleigh College students were rewarded for their teamwork and fitness with medals and certificates, whilst the College itself received new sports equipment.

The Sports Studies students taking part were: Chris Street, Gary Stoba, Ryan Davies, Scott Kenley, Sam Purkis, Michaela Palmer, Charlotte Rumbold, Cherie Wingar, Nicki Fulford, Freddie Toomer, Joe Crook, Jon Webb, Dan Collinson and Luke Piper. Team Managers were: Kevin Busuttil and Jackie Raymond.
