Electrical Apprentice, Daniel Wills (pictured) couldn't believe his eyes when he received the 'Vocational Student of the Year' award at Eastleigh College's Annual Awards in May. Attending the ceremony to collect his award, Daniel was delighted to be presented with over £200 worth of tools donated by awarding body, City and Guilds in recognition of his achievements.

"I was really surprised to be given all these tools, I wasn't expecting this at all!
said Daniel. "They are going to be a great help."

Daniel currently works for Johnson Controls, part of IBM. Kevin Osbourne from the company said of the awards "It was a most enjoyable evening and it was great to visit the College."

Daniel was one of 50 winners on the night, all singled out for their dedication to work-based training. Other winners included Nick Clarke (pictured), who was awarded 'Electrical Student of the Year' after moving from London to start a new life as an electrician in Hampshire.

Ian Still (pictured), an Electrical Lecturer at Eastleigh College commented:
"Daniel, Nick and all the students here tonight have worked really hard this year to earn their awards. It's really pleasing to see so many students getting recognition for their achievements and it's great to have been part of that success."

In addition to celebrating student achievements, the Annual Awards provides an opportunity to recognise the dedication employers have made to their staff development through working with Eastleigh College. This year saw several local companies win 'Employer of the Year' awards including Cold Service and Rigfone Electrics, as well as the Nirvana Hair Salon in Winchester winning the 'Work Experience Provider of the Year' award.

Other awards included the David Baird Prize for dental nursing, along with prizes for Business Services, Engineering, Plumbing and Hairdressing.
