Save money by saving the planet?

Eastleigh College hosted its first 'Car Carbon Reduction' day earlier this month to help the local community reduce car emissions and save money on fuel costs.

In conjunction with ASNU (as new), the leading manufacturer of car injector servicing equipment, the College's Automotive Department removed and cleaned ten sets of fuel injectors from a wide range of vehicles brought in by members of the public on the day. All vehicles were tested both before and after the service to measure reduced emissions and improved fuel economy.

Mike Driscoll, Learning Manager for the Automotive Department commented "We've had an extremely positive response from the local community, who are all very keen to reduce emissions and make a saving on their fuel bills. The event has been a great success and we are already planning the next one, which we will look to run over a whole week, meaning we can potentially service an additional 50 cars."

Bob Hopkinson, Project Coordinator of ANSU commented "This was an exceptionally well organised event and the Eastleigh College students have been brilliant; very professional. We are very pleased with the initial results which show a real improvement on engine performance."

The event was part of a wider programme taking place across the whole of the UK. A final report will be published in June 2009 and submitted by ASNU to both Government and industry bodies in support of reducing car emissions on a national scale.
