Four students from Crestwood School were the winners of this years Aim Higher Building Services Challenge 2008 hosted by Eastleigh College.

The Building Services Challenge is designed to develop the team working and problem solving skills of year nine students (aged between 13-14) and offer them a chance to learn new skills by trying out different job roles within the construction industry.

Each school entered four teams of students, with each team member acting out the roles of a site manager, a carpenter, an electrician and a plumber. Students were encouraged to choose their own roles and the winning team from each heat went onto represent their school in the grand final.

All teams were assessed by industry experts from Eastleigh College and judged on their teamwork, level of technical skill and professional finish for the two and a half hour final. Competing against Hamble School (second place), Mountbatten School (third place) and Bitterne Park School (fourth place) it was the team from Crestwood School who eventually came out on top.

Paul Adams, Head of Technology for Eastleigh College commented "The building services challenge is not only a great way of encouraging team work and problem solving but also of introducing young people to the varied and interesting roles available within the construction industry. Hopefully today we are seeing some of tomorrow's professionals!"
