When exclusive five star Restaurant and Hotel 'The White Horse' opened this month it was due in part to a little help from Eastleigh College.
As extensive refurbishment of the original 14th century coaching Inn in Market Place, Romsey took place earlier in the month, the 48 team of newly assembled Silks Hotel staff desperately needed somewhere to prepare and turned to Eastleigh College's catering department for help.
Alan Humphreys, Catering Manager for the College "We were honoured to help out The White Horse. It's been great having their team training here in our kitchens and restaurant. We are very fortunate to have facilities that are as close as you can get to real world experience without actually being in the workplace. I think that helped a lot."
Head chief for The White Horse Mathew Gardner, who trained alongside celebrity chief Gary Rhodes, has devised an innovative modern British menu using locally sourced produce for the new restaurant. He commented "We wanted to move away from the traditional three courses and create a menu that was flexible. We are excited to be able to offer our guests a unique 24 hour 'hot food' dinning service!"
The White Horse restaurant itself accommodates around 80 covers, with an additional bar area, lounge and outside dinning taking this up to over 200 covers.
Jill Shea, Marketing Manager for Silks Hotels commented on the newly renovated hotel "It was very important to let the history of the original building shine through. It is integral to The White Horse's character. It makes it special."
