Three in a row for college cooks

team

For the third year in a row Hospitality and Catering students from Eastleigh College have won the Army's Annual Catering Challenge. Held at Thorney Island on 9th May, students were given the chance to put both their catering and survival skills to the test through a range of army 'field' activities.

Up against seven other colleges from across the region, the Eastleigh College team successfully completed this unique challenge which included erecting a workable kitchen out of old rusty bins, bricks and corrugated iron as well as completing a gruelling assault course against the clock. "We are really pleased to have won the challenge for the third year running", said one student. "It was a brilliant day but the assault course was very hard."

The winning students menu consisted of deep fried chicken on coconut with a coconut sauce, served with chunky oven chips and stir fired vegetables. As this dish proved to be so popular on the day, it has now been added to the colleges Red Carpet Restaurant lunch menu and can be sampled by reserving a table on 023 8091 1053 during term time.

The winning students were all presented with medals by members of the army.
Alan Humphrey, Senior Catering Lecturer for Eastleigh College commented "We are extremely proud of all involved and are now looking forward to defending the title next year."
