Eastleigh College students and staff presented Teenage Cancer Trust and Cancer Research UK with donations amounting to over £2,230!
Tony Lau-Walker, Chief Executive, along with full-time students from the College, presented cheques to representatives from both charities. The money was raised through a range of fundraising activities including cake sales, ticket sales for a Christmas production by the Performing Arts students, staff College quiz, staff sponsored weight loss, 5-a-side football, auction of a signed football shirt and many more events throughout 2011.
Beth Bartlan, Teenage Cancer Trust Regional Fundraiser said:
"Teenage Cancer Trust is in its final stage of an appeal to build a ten bed unit at Southampton General Hospital, and this money will make an amazing difference towards helping teenagers with cancer in Hampshire."
Bridget Vane, Area Volunteer Manager for Cancer Research UK, said:
"This money will go directly towards research dedicated to saving lives. We are very grateful to all the staff and students at Eastleigh College for their generous donation."
Fundraising for the new academic year is already underway with more events and activities planned for both staff and students.
