NEWS & EVENTS

Over 150 students from schools across Southampton, Winchester, Romsey and Eastleigh attended Eastleigh College's vocational taster open day on Friday.
Students, aged 13-15, participated in 22 different taster sessions
covering a range of diverse and fun activities such as chill out,
wood worming, bend it like Beckham, the pancake challenge,
alongside many more.
Year 10 student Chantal Appleton from Noadswood School, Dibden
Purlieu, thoroughly enjoyed all of the activities on offer,
commenting:
"I'm looking to study performing arts or dance, but today I've had
the chance to try all the men's stuff. The girls get to do what the
boys can do and I've already won the electrical task where I
finished the challenge in first place!"
The aim of the event was to provide secondary school students who
are considering their career options a taste of what different
occupations could offer, and how progressing on to college could
help them reach their career aspirations.
Karen Wyeth, schools' liaison officer and event organiser
said:
"All of the students have thoroughly enjoyed today, participating
in as many activities as they could. It's been a great way to show
young people what college can offer and for them to find out about
the different opportunities available when they finish school."
The College, which experienced the largest rise in its 16-18
full-time student intake in 2010/11, continues to develop its
course provision in line with the employment needs of the local
area, with new courses such as Forensic Science, Airline Cabin Crew
and Building Maintenance starting in September.

apprenticeships Eastleigh College can offer, or to apply for
