Eastleigh College celebrated another successful year for
students and staff with their 2011 Annual Awards ceremony earlier
this week. College staff, governors and business partners gathered
together at the College's main campus to celebrate the exceptional
achievements of the staff and students.
Among the many awards presented, several students received the
prestigious Governors' awards; these are picked annually by the
College Governors, to reward success and achievement in a
particular area. Winners this year included the Introductory
Certificate in Vocational Studies students, who received the
Student Team of the Year Award in celebration of their
achievements, and Level 2 Beauty student Hannah Ross, who won the
Work Experience Student of the Year Award. Richard Jones was the
recipient of the Governor's Award for Endeavour, for his dedication
and hard work on the Higher Education Counselling courses.
Seven students received individual College prizes in recognition
of their exceptional progress in their chosen subject area, whilst
several College staff members were recognised for their
achievements. Robert Strachan, Catering & Hospitality lecturer,
won Teacher of the Year, and the Additional Learning Support team
won Staff Team of the Year Award. Employer Awards were given to
Gascare and Medway Secure Centre for their contribution and
commitment to education and training with the College, and New Park
Manor won the Work Experience Provider of the Year Award.
Mo Rogers, Additional Learning Support Team Coordinator,
said:
'We are delighted to have received the award for 'Team of the
Year' for 2010/11. The award is recognition of the hard
work, dedication and commitment shown by everyone to
achieve outstanding success whilst developing our provision to
respond to the changing needs of our learners.'
The guest speaker at the ceremony was Alex Danson, a member of the
England and Great Britain's women's national field hockey team,
with over 115 international Caps to date. Alex ended the evening
with an inspirational presentation to the packed out audience,
describing her successful journey to date in the sports
field.
Prize winners and guests were also treated to a fantastic
performance by Performing Arts and Foundation students. Dancing to
the Glee remake of the song 'True Colours', the students performed
a dance incorporating Makaton sign language into their
movements.
