BTEC Level 2, NVQ Level 2 Diploma or Apprenticeship

Progression:

Level 3 course, Advanced Apprenticeship, Employment

Entry requirements:

At least 4 GCSEs at A*-C (English and Maths preferred) or an equivalent Level 2 qualification at Merit or Distinction Level. There will be an interview and/or assessment.

Duration:

2 Years

Qualifications you could gain:

BTEC Level 3 (and Extended Level 3), NVQ Level 3 Diploma or Advanced Apprenticeship

Progression:

Higher Education: Degree/HND/HNC, NVQ Level 4, Higher Apprenticeship, Employment

Level 3 qualification

1 or 2 Years

Qualifications you could gain:

HNC, CertHE, NVQ Level 4 or Higher Apprenticeship

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is for students seeking a career as a qualified electrician. As part of your role, you will carry out a range of duties including the installation, inspection, testing and commissioning of electrical systems, devices, appliances and equipment in domestic, industrial, commercial, leisure and agricultural buildings, structures and environments. This three to four year course will qualify learners as electricians.

What is required to join this course?

- 5 GCSEs grade A*-C including Maths and English or the equivalent
AND
- Successful College interview/assessment
- Show enthusiasm and motivation to commit to the course

What will I learn, how will I be assessed and what qualifications will I achieve?

You will have the opportunity to study:
- Installing and maintaining electrotechnical systems and equipment
- Inspecting, testing, commissioning and certifying electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment
- Overseeing and organising the work environment relating to electrical installation
- Understanding Health and Safety legislation, practices and procedures

How will the course be taught?

The workshop is set up to simulate site working conditions and students will learn to construct installations to industry standards. Students will be on either day or block release depending on the employer's stipulation. Two attendance patterns are available:
- One day per week for the first three years, this will equate to 35 days per year
- Via Block Release, 1 week in 3 for a total of 12 weeks each year for only two years
Both are followed where necessary by a final year of monthly attendance based on how much work still needs to be completed in your logbook. You will be assessed continually through practical tasks and the completion of a logbook of workshop based activities. Your theoretical work will be assessed by completion of a number of work related portfolios.

What are the career/progression opportunities?

- On successful completion of the course you will be a qualified electrician and can seek employment as such in a wide variety of sectors
- Progression within your career with further training into job roles such as Technician, System Designer, Estimator or Project/Contracts Manager
