Who is the course suitable for?
This course is designed to cover a diverse range of both practical and theoretical modern engineering practices. It is a qualification developed in conjunction with employers and is aimed to provide an attractive range of study areas to get you one step ahead in your career as an Engineer in many disciplines. If your current role involves quality control or CNC, or you are a manufacturing or design engineer, this course will enable you to progress your career to a higher technical level, potentially into a supervisory capacity.
What is required to join this course?
- 5 GCSEs grade A*-C including Maths and English or the equivalent
- NVQ Level 2 in Engineering (Performing Engineering Operations)
AND
- Successful College interview/assessment
What will I learn, how will I be assessed and what qualifications will I achieve?
You will have the opportunity to study:
- Maintenance engineering principles
- General maintenance techniques
- Electrical and electronic principles
- Engineering and environmental health and safety
How will the course be taught?
Apprentices learn and develop skills through a mixture of lessons, demonstrations, assignments and practical tasks in the College workshops. In addition your practical skills will be assessed in the workplace. There are a vast amount of units to choose from within the engineering framework, and learners will work on units to suit their job role.
What are the career/progression opportunities?
- Higher Education/University, such as HNC/HND in Engineering
- Various roles within a number of engineering-based industries requiring a higher level of skills and knowledge
