Entry requirements:

Generally at least 4 GCSEs at A*-G (or equivalent), although some courses may require no formal qualifications. There will be an interview and/or assessment.

At least 4 GCSEs at A*-D or an equivalent Level 1 qualification. There will be an interview and/or assessment.

BTEC Level 2, NVQ Level 2 Diploma or Apprenticeship

Progression:

Level 3 course, Advanced Apprenticeship, Employment

Entry requirements:

At least 4 GCSEs at A*-C (English and Maths preferred) or an equivalent Level 2 qualification at Merit or Distinction Level. There will be an interview and/or assessment.

Duration:

2 Years

Qualifications you could gain:

BTEC Level 3 (and Extended Level 3), NVQ Level 3 Diploma or Advanced Apprenticeship

Progression:

Higher Education: Degree/HND/HNC, NVQ Level 4, Higher Apprenticeship, Employment

1 or 2 Years

Qualifications you could gain:

HNC, CertHE, NVQ Level 4 or Higher Apprenticeship

Who is the course suitable for?

The course is suitable to individuals who ideally have experience of the construction industry and have an interest of maintenance and the upkeep of buildings.

What will I learn, how will I be assessed and what qualifications will I achieve?

A motivated and keen student will gain knowledge of many building methods and learn a range of practical skills including plastering, painting, brickwork, carpentry, and plumbing. Students will study the essential skills of health & safety and methods of calculating and ordering of building materials. The qualification taught will be a diploma level 2. You will be assessed continually through the completion of practical tasks, projects and workbooks. Each unit will be completed by coursework, oral examination, practical and written examination. There will also be an online knowledge test to be taken at the end of the course. You will be given the opportunity to learn the hand skills to carry out various practical tasks. You will also be taught skills to help communicate within the industry, how to calculate quantities and health & safety.

How will the course be taught?

You will be assessed continually through the completion of practical tasks, projects and workbooks. Each unit will be completed by coursework, oral examination, practical and written examination. There will also be an online knowledge test to be taken at the end of the course.

What are the career/progression opportunities?

On successful completion of the course a candidate could seek employment in maintenance companies in both the private and public sector which could include hospitals, schools, care homes or libraries where you could also work towards an NVQ Level 2.

What additional resources are required and what should I bring to the first class?

You will need to provide some steel toe capped boots and provide a folder and pens for theory lessons. You should also wear appropriate clothing for the practical aspect of the course.

Are there any other costs involved?

The cost of the course will be £616 + 80Q in year 1 and £616 in year 2.
