What is an Apprenticeship?
An Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised work-based training programme, for both adults and school leavers, combining on and off-the-job training. Apprenticeships are generally delivered on a day release or block basis, where students attend college for a minimum of one day per week and spend the rest of their time at work, although several Apprenticeships offered by Eastleigh College can be delivered wholly in the workplace.
Apprenticeships can take between one and four years to complete depending on the level of Apprenticeship, the apprentices' ability, and the industry sector.
Types of Apprenticeship
The Eastleigh College Training Agency and Assessment
Centre currently offer three levels of Apprenticeship for
those aged 16 and over, Intermediate Apprenticeship, Advanced
Apprenticeship and Higher Apprenticeship.
Intermediate Apprenticeship
Intermediate Apprenticeships are equivalent to 5 good GCSEs. Through a programme of learning and work based vocational assessment, Intermediate Apprentices work towards:
-
NVQ Level 2
-
Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT
-
Employment Rights and Responsibilities
In some cases, a relevant knowledge based qualification such as a BTEC can also be achieved within the Apprenticeship programme.
Advanced Apprenticeship
Advanced Apprenticeships are equivalent to 2 A-Levels and can lead to further industry training. You work towards work based learning qualifications such as NVQ Level 3, Functional Skills and, in most cases, a relevant knowledge based certificate such as a BTEC.
Higher Apprenticeships
Apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such as a Level 4 Competence Qualification, Functional Skills and, in some cases, a knowledge-based qualification such as a Foundation Degree.
Entry Requirements
To apply for an Apprenticeship, you should meet the following criteria:
