Who is the course suitable for?
This course is suitable for students who are seeking a career in a business administration environment. It is also a desirable and recognised award for those working in a business setting. Suitable job roles include Office Junior, Administrator or Receptionist. Your role may involve using the telephone, handling mail, record keeping, welcoming visitors and using office equipment. This versatile course will suit most business environments and can be moulded around your particular duties.
What is required to join this course?
- 5 GCSEs grade A*-C including Maths and English or the equivalent
AND/OR
- An appropriate Certificate in Vocational Studies with recommendation from your tutor
- Successful College interview/assessment
What will I learn, how will I be assessed and what qualifications will I achieve?
You will have the opportunity to study:
- Meet and welcome visitors
- Store and retrieve information
- Prepare text from notes
- Communicate in a business environment
- Database software
- Order products and services
- Use a diary system
- Contribute to running a project
How will the course be taught?
This course is delivered on a day release basis. In order to complete the qualification, there are a vast amount of units that you can choose from. The units you choose will depend on your job role and the kind of evidence you are able to gather over the duration of the course.
The qualification comprises of a work based competency qualification in Business Administration and a College assessed knowledge qualification.
What are the career/progression opportunities?
- Entry to Level 3 programmes, i.e. Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration
- Further employment in the industry leading to higher level positions such as Personal Assistants and Secretaries

Payment is accepted by cheque, credit or debit card at the time of enrolment.
The only means tested benefits Colleges are able to accept this year will be Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) and Employment Support Allowances (ESA) in the Work Related Activity.
