Who is the course suitable for?
This course is suitable for those looking to develop a wide range of skills commonly found in the property maintenance industry. You will carry out a range of duties including working in domestic and commercial premises to given specifications repairing or renewing wood products, plumbing, wall and floor tiling, decorating, bricklaying and plastering, depending upon the route taken in the qualification. This course will give a sound knowledge and skills base to develop a career either in general maintenance, or with the option to specialise in a specific trade.
What is required to join this course?
- 5 GCSEs grade A*-C including Maths and English or the equivalent
AND
- Successful College interview/assessment
- Show enthusiasm and motivation to commit to the course
What will I learn, how will I be assessed and what qualifications will I achieve?
You will have the opportunity to study:
- Erecting and dismantling access/working platforms
- Maintaining non-structural carpentry
- Installing basic plumbing
- Knowledge of building methods and construction technology
- Conforming to general safety in the workplace
How will the course be taught?
Assessment is continuous throughout the course. There will be exams and ongoing practical assessment at college and in the workplace. Apprentices will be required to gather evidence from their workplace.
What are the career/progression opportunities?
- Higher Education/University
- Employment in the industry as a general maintenance operative, either as an employee or self-employed
- Learners can progress to a Level 3 qualification to specialise in a specific area, such as Bricklaying or Site Carpentry
