Who is the course suitable for?
This qualification is for those seeking a career caring for others. Initial job roles will include Health Care Assistants or Health Care Support Workers. Your job role will involve providing vital assistance to healthcare professionals in diagnosing, treating and caring for patients. Many are involved in looking after the well-being and comfort of patients. You will work in a variety of settings, depending upon your role, including clinics, care homes, private homes and hospitals.
What is required to join this course?
- 5 GCSEs grade A*-C including Maths and English or the equivalent
AND/OR
- BTEC Foundation Certificate or Level 1 course in a related subject at Distinction Grade
- Demonstrate a commitment to, and interest in, the care industry
- Successful College interview/assessment
What will I learn, how will I be assessed and what qualifications will I achieve?
You will have the opportunity to study:
- The role of the health and social care worker
- Contribute to health and safety in health and social care
- Understand physical disability
- Equality and diversity in the health sector
- People and personal development in the health sector
- Dementia awareness
- Causes and spread of infection
How will the course be taught?
There will be ongoing assessment via coursework/submitting assignments and observation both in College and in the workplace. There are no formal exams.
What are the career/progression opportunities?
- BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care.
This could be followed by Higher Education/University study, in areas such as nurse training, social work or midwifery
- Further employment in the health and social care sector in an unsupervised capacity
