Entry requirements:

Generally at least 4 GCSEs at A*-G (or equivalent), although some courses may require no formal qualifications. There will be an interview and/or assessment.

1 Year

Further courses at Level 1 or 2

At least 4 GCSEs at A*-D or an equivalent Level 1 qualification. There will be an interview and/or assessment.

1 Year

Qualifications you could gain:

BTEC Level 2, NVQ Level 2 Diploma or Apprenticeship

Progression:

Level 3 course, Advanced Apprenticeship, Employment

Entry requirements:

At least 4 GCSEs at A*-C (English and Maths preferred) or an equivalent Level 2 qualification at Merit or Distinction Level. There will be an interview and/or assessment.

Duration:

2 Years

Qualifications you could gain:

BTEC Level 3 (and Extended Level 3), NVQ Level 3 Diploma or Advanced Apprenticeship

Progression:

Higher Education: Degree/HND/HNC, NVQ Level 4, Higher Apprenticeship, Employment

Level 3 qualification

Duration:

1 or 2 Years

Qualifications you could gain:

HNC, CertHE, NVQ Level 4 or Higher Apprenticeship

Progression:

BTEC Level 5 qualification or Employment

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is suitable for candidates who are employed as a Stylist in a salon and have already achieved a level of experience in the industry. Your duties will include carrying out treatments such as creatively cutting hair, colouring hair, colour correction, creatively styling and dressing hair, creating a variety of permed looks and providing hair extension services. This qualification will prepare those who are interested in salon management or setting up their own business within the industry.

What is required to join this course?

- NVQ Diploma Level 2 in Hairdressing or equivalent
AND
- Recommendation from your tutor
- Successful College interview/assessment

What will I learn, how will I be assessed and what qualifications will I achieve?

You will have the opportunity to study:
- Provide hairdressing consultation services
- Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
- Colour hair using a variety of techniques
- Creatively style and dress hair
- Create a variety of permed effects
- Contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business
- Support client service improvements
- Promote additional services or products to clients
- Monitor procedures to safely control work operations

How will the course be taught?

Your theory and practical work will be continually assessed throughout the course. A portfolio will be built up containing assignments, workbooks, practical work and mandatory exams. You will also be assessed in the College salons.

What are the career/progression opportunities?

Employment in the industry, including:
- work as a manager within salons, department stores, health farms, cruise liners
- work as a colour technician, cutting technician
- running your own business
