Who is the course suitable for?
This course is suitable for candidates seeking a career in hairdressing, often beginning in roles such as a Junior Stylist in a salon. Your duties will include carrying out treatments such as basic cutting, styling, drying and finishing. This qualification will help you to pursue a career in a variety of locations including salons, spas, hospitals, care homes, department stores, hotels, airlines and holiday resorts as well as working freelance.
What is required to join this course?
- 5 GCSEs grade A*-C including Maths, English and Science or the equivalent
AND/OR
- An appropriate Certificate in Vocational Studies with recommendation from your tutor
- Successful College interview/assessment
What will I learn, how will I be assessed and what qualifications will I achieve?
You will have the opportunity to study:
- Advise and consult with clients
- Shampoo and condition hair and scalp
- Cut hair using basic techniques
- Change hair colour
- Style and finish hair
- Set and dress hair
- Plait and twist hair
- Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety
How will the course be taught?
Your theory and practical work will be continually assessed throughout the course. A portfolio will be built up containing assignments, workbooks, practical work and mandatory exams. You will also be assessed in the College salons.
What are the career/progression opportunities?
- Entry to Level 3 programmes
- Higher level employment in the industry, often in the role of Stylist
- Freelance/self-employed work
