16-18 Apprenticeships

16-18 Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are a great choice for those who can't wait to get into the world of work. As an employee, you get to earn while you learn, taking one or two days each week to attend college.

Apprentices work and study on a nationally recognised training programme. You can gain qualifications in a range of industry disciplines, giving you the skills you need for your chosen career.

Apprenticeships can take between one and four years to complete depending on the level of Apprenticeship, the apprentices' ability, and the industry sector.

Apprenticeship levels

There are two levels of Apprenticeship available through The Eastleigh College Training Agency (ECTA).

Entry requirements

To apply for an Apprenticeship, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Be aged 16 or over and living in England
  • Not in full-time education at the start of the programme
  • Have a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), grades A*-C including Maths and English
  • At the start of the programme you must be employed in industry by an employer who is willing to support training in the workplace and at the College.

If you are not currently employed, ECTA can offer CV advice and help you to seek employment; however, we cannot guarantee that we will find you employment.

We would recommend that all applicants to the Apprenticeship programme, who are yet to secure employment, also apply for a full time course at Eastleigh College to ensure they are able to continue with their training should they not secure employment.

Support for apprentices

During your Apprenticeship you will be visited regularly by an ECTA Training Advisor assigned to provide you with support and encourage you to achieve the objectives set. The Training Advisor will be able to explain all aspects of your course and help you with any problems. The Training Advisor will also review your progress at work and in College by meeting your employer and tutors.

How to apply

Ideally Apprenticeship applicants will already have an employer in place. We can accept applications from those still seeking an employer, and will notify these applicants of potential openings that may be suitable.
