There is lots of choice on the Links courses. If you are interested in studying on this programme, you can select two subjects from below to try out on taster days, before deciding which route to follow.

Construction
CSkills Building Craft Operations Certificate - 501/0675/2 - Level 1
Supported by the Construction Industry Training Board, students will participate in a varied programme of skills sampling and development, including carpentry, plumbing and brickwork. Students need to complete all three elements of the course to pass. Students need to supply essential safety boots.
Health & Social Care
Health & Social Care BTEC Award Level 1 - 500054879
Students who have an interest in pursuing a career within the health and caring professions will learn skills in; first aid, the needs of elderly people, children and adults, skills and qualities needed by carers, and diet and nutrition.
Hairdressing & Beauty Basics
City & Guilds Hair and Beauty Sector Introduction Certificate - 5006325x
The two elements of hair and beauty are now combined to allow you to fully appreciate what progression opportunities exist for you after school.
Based in the College's professionally furnished salons, students will develop skills and understanding in various aspects of hand and nail care, cleansing and make-up in the beauty area. In the hair area, students will perform tasks such as shampooing and conditioning hair, blow drying, basic setting and dressing hair, and reception skills. Students are to supply essential clothing and kit and uniforms can be ordered from the College.
Motor Vehicle
Vehicle Technology Introduction IMIAL - Award or Certificate 501/0549/8 or 501/0590/5 - Entry 3
Based in the motor vehicle workshops, students will particpate in servicing the motor car, fault finding and minor repairs, and car valeting. The students will also complete work in the engineering department. Students are to supply stout shoes with steel toe caps (not trainers), and a boiler suit.
Food Preparation & Cooking
Entry Level Award/Certificate in Introducation to the Hospitality Industry - 500/6513/0 or 500/6519/1
Working in industrial standard kitchens, students will prepare and cook food to agreed menus. Topics will include the Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, basic knife skills, food preparation, and cooking a range of commodities. Essential clothing (white overall and hat) will be provided. Students must supply stout shoes (not trainers).

The following courses have been put together to allow students to have three tasters in Year 10. You would study three of the courses, one each term, and then select one course for study in more depth in Year 11.
Sport & Active Leisure
BTEC Award in Sport and Active Leisure - 500/5776/5 - Entry 3
Students will not only look at the sports industry, they will also look at their own health and fitness, develop their own fitness programmes and assist in sporting events. They will need to have full PE kit for indoor and outdoor activities.
Travel & Tourism
BTEC Award in Travel and Tourism - 500/5999/3 - Entry 3
A keen interest in the travel industry is required as a starting point for this qualification. You will need to investigate tourist destinations, along with tourism attractions in the South, including at least one visit to a leading attraction in the area. You will require normal school equipment for the course but you may need to dress smartly if required to work in the travel shop.

Public Services Entry 3
BTEC Entry Level Award in Public Services - 500/7544/5
Students will look at the basic requirements for entry into a wide range of public services. A major part of the course will focus on outdoor activities such as map reading and general fitness levels. They will need to have full PE kit for indoor and outdoor activities, along with suitable clothes for bad weather activities.
Retail Knowledge
VTCT Level 1 Award in Retail Knowledge - 500/6901/9
This qualification looks at the requirements to gain employment in the retail industry. It will look at such areas as customer service, selling, health and safety, and stock control. You will require normal school equipment for the course, but you may be required to dress smartly on occasion.
Practical Floristry Skills
ABC Entry Level Award in Practical Floristry Skills - 500/9258/3 - Entry 3
This course looks to provide an introduction to the floristry industry and the students will cover topics such as recognising materials used in floristry, assisting with potting up rooted cuttings, large seedlings or plugs by hand, making a single flower buttonhole, or wrapping flowers and plants.
