Moodle is the College's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It is an online source which you can access in College, from home, or at work, on any Internet-enabled computer. Moodle contains information about your course, placed there by your tutors. The kind of information that you might expect to find on Moodle for your course includes:
• Staff information
• Scheme of work
• Assignment schedule
• Course materials
• Useful websites
• Discussion boards
In addition to information specifically about your course, there is also general information about College facilities and services to support your studies, such as the Additional Learning Support and the Learning Centre.
To access Moodle from inside College, just click on the VLE button on the Student Intranet. If you are at home or at work, click on the Account Log in button on the top right of the College website and use your normal College username and password.
Computer Services provide computing, data communications, telephone and audio visual services in support of all College activities for all students and staff.
These services are supported by an extensive data network infrastructure. The College currently supports Microsoft Windows XP and Office 2007 amongst other software packages. Students who don't have Office 2007 at home can download Open Office free from the Internet, at OpenOffice.org. This will enable them to open Office 2007 documents.
Each student is given a unique computer login account and password. This enables you to use the College PC workstations and provides you with your own College email address. We also provide you with disk storage space which can be used to store files such as your documents.
Access to the Internet is available on all student computers in support of studies; you can also access the College Intranets and Moodle (Virtual Learning Environment).
Use of College IT systems is subject to Guidelines on Acceptable use of the College network, email and the internet. (doc)
Additional facilities include:
- Wireless mobile classrooms
- Ceiling mounted and portable data projectors
- Scanning and printing
- Access to computing services externally to facilitate home study
- Assistive technology
